I THINK I'M DREAMING!!!!!!!!

I'm in a state of shock right now. Remember how I was talking about rental prolbems??? In our 6 family in Summervill, MA me and a few other spend all of last winter doing over a unit. My dad spend over 40grand fixing it up. We just rented it to three young girls, only three days ago. They are paying big rent too. Its kind of a bad spot, the three girls are white. Most of the other people around are black, spanish, people on welfair. The girls kind of stuck out as being "upperclass". I had hockey practice tonight, on the way home I thought it was strange, I drove my my dad workplace and his car was not in his parking space. My coach droped me off at my house and I came up stairs. My mom then tells me that someone smashed the girls door in this afternoon, I've been told they stole three computers and two TV's. She also told me that one of the girls said she does not feel safe anymore, and may move. I don't know all the details, my dad is down with them now. I just can't beleave this happend

My dad owns a lot of rental's, this is the first time anyone has broken into any of them......it sucks......they where really nice working class young girls too.

Its been a while and my dad is still not back. He ran out in such a hurry he forgot his cell phone, so I'm in the dark. I just hope that they did not trash the place.

Anyone got suggestons........ I'll be down there sunday working in the basement,,, anything i should look for what I'm around? And suggestions about how to make sure this does not happen again? I think my dad will be sure to carry his guy when we are around this building from now on.

Odds are the police aren't going to find anything and even if they do the problems won't go away. I doubt anyone in the neighborhood will snitch them off because that will cause problems for them. Your Dad needs to sell the house or rent it to people on welfare so someone is able to be home all the time. Tell your Dad to not charge the girls rent for the next couple months so they can find another place to live. Thats what happens when you work and you live around a bunch of worthless scums. They wait till you leave and then rip you off so they can buy drugs. They'll probably get a couple hundred bucks for the stuff that cost the girls $3000. There isn't a solution except sell the house and chalk it up as a learning experience. Don't buy houses in neighborhoods that contain mostly rentals.

The whole family has been telling my dad to sell the house, for as long as I can remember. He'll never sell it, thats that....it just won't happen. The place makes him money. He we sold it, the goverment will take a huge chunk of the money, and then what do we have? We've got the money from selling the place......but thats only one pay off. We have rent comming in every mounth, for as long as we own it. He has owned this place for over 20years. We have never lived there, and never will. He still is not home

, its 11:37 he's been gone for over 4 hours......hope he does not have to find the girls a hotel, also hope the girls don'e sue us for something.

Rotweiler, Doberman, Pit Bull, Shepard, etc. Or, find the local boyz in the hood and pay them to watch the place. Yup, ya heard me, tell 'em to pay protection $ to the nearest gang. Or, go the other way and find the Winter Hill folks and pay them. Your Dad probably knows where to go if he's owned that place for 20 years. Those girls Tufts Students? Easy marks dude. You should have known they were going to be B&E'd To be honest, they are lucky they weren't raped. Fresh blood in a pool of sharks! Where in Sommerville is the house?

Ryan, He should look at the option of selling so that he could purchase a rental unit that is not located in bum town. To get around the capital gains taxes, he go to an attorny and the sale structured as pre-inheiritance gifts for the kids that would go into trusts, that could them be converted (by a good CPA) into equity in new investment property. But, if this is what he must have, ( and I don't want to sound unsympathetic here) he must deal with the BS that goes along with it. It doesn't make much sense to me though because property in crapy locations has such a low appreciation amount, particularly when figured in with cost of maintainence, repairs, damage not covered by insurance or security deposites, personal time invested in the business of renting property etc, it seems like a duplex in nicer section of town would be a WAY better investment. But I admit, I don't know all the facts and stuff, and I do hope everything works out for the best.

Now I've got the whole story. The girls are use to city life, one wanted to move out at first. But it seems the other two have talked her into staying. They said that over 13grand worth of computer stuff was stolen, plus DVD players and DVD's. The police arrested a man in the building next to ours for selling drugs, he is a suspect. But none of the stuff was on him or in his unit....I don't think it was him. The police went and talked to all the other people that live in the building. They told us that they don't think it was anyone who lives in the building. But the women who lives under the unit that got broken in to seemed scaired. She is an older black women. She's very nice, but sometimes hard to understand. The police would like my dad and the matnence guys [me and another guy] to go talk to this women. We are gonna be real nice to her and try to make her understand that she will not get into truble, she just has to tell us who did it. Being an older generation aferican american I think she may fear the police, but I think she trusts me mostley. She always tells me what a nice job I do when I repair anything......she may open up. She must have saw something, The junkies who did this had to carry the stuff they stole right past her door, and she was home at the time. If we can get a name, we'll go to the police. If the police can't do anything about it we may take care of it ourselfs.

You are right. Last winter a "gang rap" took place on the side walk, 30feet from our building. They caught he people who did it,,, they are doing some hard time for it too. All this stuff makes me really feel gratefull for where I live. Its nice to live in a "town" and have a yard.....its also nice to live in place where I can leave the door unlocked when I leave in the morning and come home to my computer.....that has not been stolen.

We'll see what she does when we go talk to her tomorow morning. The local gangs in sumervill are not as bad as you would think,,,,they are just pusseys who steel stuff so they can get drugs. They are not "real" gangsters. I know I don't fear them,,we know how to take care of people like that.

This type of thing can happen anywhere. I have a friend that owns property with two houses in Northern Wisconsin. Mellon in fact. Just by the name you can tell it's small. No one lives in either house, but they are visited infrequently by my friend and his family. His cousin uses the pasture land for cattle. The second house was broken into and taken over by drug users. I know he is telling the truth, because I have been there and seen the burnt spoons, candles and the areas they used for toilets. The county sheriffs tried to make them leave, but they would hide in the woods. My friends cousin took another friend and shotgun into the place and forced the junkies out. Later that week, the junkies returned, killed one of his steers and left a note threatening his family with death. Finally the county sheriff went in with a few deputies and the junkies finally vacated. This place was definitely farther from the hood and than any place can be. I am not saying there is not a higher incident of crime in the areas like Ryan describes. Any place where there are people with no jobs you will get drug users and crime to pay for the drugs. Ryan, I hope all works out well for your family and your renters. It is too bad that this happened and that you cannot predict where the next bad are is going to be. I am glad no one was hurt.

Dude, just be careful. The local sreet thugs like that would just as soon shoot you or put a knife in you back as look at you. I grew up in Southie so I know a thing or two about the way the inner city world works... In this day and age the guns come right out. The old lady knows that, that's why she is keeping her mouth shut. Wanna find the stuff? Just get somebody from the hood to go to the local bars. That's where it is being sold. If you get the right person to go in, for the right price the bartender will tell you all you need to know.

I'll be spending the whole day down there tomorow, Me, my dad and two other guys are gonna be putting in the new bulkhead and a few doors. All three of the other guys will be carrying guys, I can't because I'm too young......(not fair) We'll get a name for out tennet, we really don't have time to play police and go around asking locals about it.
