Good Morning folks,
I recently found a vehicle on E-bay that I was interested in for purchase to use as a 4-wheeler essentially on the back 80 acres for firewood cutting, etc. Called the owner, asked if the 4 wd worked, and he stated it did, just had some 'squeaks and rattles'... and the title would need some work. When I inquired about 'what kind of work', he said it was ripped and torn, and he acquired the vehicle for lack of payment for some work that he did.
Long story short -- the guy SEVERELY misrepresented the vehicle... The dash was gone, the 4 wd worked in lo, not high, but you had to 'wire-nut' the wiring together to get it to work.
I called an under-sheriff friend of mine, and gave him the specifics on the title work... and it appeared to him that the previous owner could report the vehicle as a stolen ride and could cause all sorts of headaches... When I questioned the guy, he grew very irritated and rude -- so I decided to take my rented trailer for hauling it and go back home.
Now I see he's relisted the item with the same photos, only this time, bashing me and apparently another buyer that stopped out and was scared away by his mis-information. Something about 'I'm sick of people wanting to show up on my door-step and go out for a ride on MY GAS...'
Yes, I had nothing better to do than take off work, rent a trailer, drive 3 hours there and back with my 8 year old 20k mile truck to take a piece of junk for a spin. I really feel the guy lives so far in the middle of nowhere, he's desperate to have someone show up on his door step. No phone reception, back out of the driveway for 1/4 mile... all I could think is... "They're never gonna find my body."
Ebay seems to have grown more expensive with the fees (when it's sold.), and then when you run into stuff like this... it makes it even more frustrating.
Am I all alone in feeling this way? When I sell something (as I did this week) I want to make the new owner feel comfortable, and when it's all done... I want to have a friend in them. I recently sold an old tractor -- and the new owner wasn't liking the steering of the 65 year old machine. I drove up to his home, gave him is money back, and drove the tractor back home. I'd rather make sure there's not any issues between us than try to make a buck. 'Course, I have way more friends than money...
