Not up here. I've even looked down to Charlotte, NC. Call any marina around here and they say the same thing. For whatever reason, trailers are very hard to find.

The marina that I'm trying to buy the Mariah from can't find anything.

Trust me, I've been looking for over a month.

oh course not. thats why they want to keep it. force you to go find one and then once they have it free and clear, they pressure wash it and replace the lights for $20 in parts and then sell it for $1600+

I really don't think so. They told me they had a guy who had a trailer for sale that was in my price range. Problem is they found out the guy never titled it in his name.

Like I said, the only thing I found that was even close was a dual axle trailer with no title for $800. Next closest was $1200, and it needed new tires, brakes didn't work, and needed bunk work.

I could be wrong, but even if I get a little bit for this boat, I'll be happy.

After poking around, the boat is completely rotted. I figured that though. The engine fired right now, but what concerns me is I can't get the drive to engage either forward or reverse.

Engine runs good though!

SC is awesome. My brother lives there. VA sucks. Not only do they require titles for the trailer, but also plates along with inspections!

I think I'll take my chance with the inspection.

I can't wait to move to TN. It can't be as bad as VA.

Just noticed that in one of the pictures of the drive the tilt mechanism is missing. This is NOT the TRIM function. On a stringer the engine and drive trimmed as a unit. The tilt mechanism is a clutch arrangement on the port side of the drive. The clutch pack and cover are definitely missing and those are parts that one would expect to be hard to find. Since the tilt unit shows evidence of rust, I suspect the tilt motor is also full of water and rust making it inoperative.

Well, $100 in fees and taxes, and the trailer is mine.

Anyway, you are right, the cover is missing. Last night, the owner raised the tilt (outdrive) so I could trailer it home. It came right up and sounded normal. It just clicks when you try to lower it. Press up, and it sounds like it's against the stop. The click for down, is more like a solenoid sound. I wanted to start it, so I just removed the 3 bolts holding the half gear on the drive, and lowered it drive down to the ground and sat it on a piece of wood.

The engine trim goes up and down no problem.

The engine runs. Needs a tune up. Starts with no throttle, and idles great. Just can't give it any throttle. Carb is probably gummed up.

Here's a quick video...

Re: I want to purchase, then part out this boat...

I'm worried about the outdrive. I can't get it to engage either forward or reverse. Now, it may be a cable problem. The drive itself looks great. Prop is in great shape, and there is no damage anywhere. The engine oil is new and fresh. The outdrive oil black, but not milky. No sign of water. The boots around the drive aren't cracked.

But, like I said, I can't get the drive to engage. Now, the throttle lever has a trigger you pull to unlock it, but it almost seems like the neutral button you push to be able to rev the engine without engaging the drive.

I need to go mess with it some more. I'm sure I'm missing something. Of course, I know nothing of these OMC drives.

Any ideas of what to look for to get the drive to engage?

Thanks guys,
Steve

The tax write off is the amount that "THEY" sell it for. The loop hole is closed)

Lyle I can appreciate that the loophole as you stated is closed however if you donate it to a fire department as I stated you agree on the price and that price is on the receipt/tax slip, I just did this, there is no resale as the vehicle will be destroyed/used for training and then sold for its value in scrap metal or in a boats case most likely ash....

Thats a cool steering wheel for sure.. I am sure if you post your problems in the repair forum for outdrive and such someone may know what the deal is..Lot's of fellas fool with em and know alot about em.. The vintage boats use em.. OMC made a electric shift on some of those stringers, but I think it's for the older stuff.. If the marina wants it for 4 bills... Sell that sucker.. They likely know someone who needs it for parts... Then what you need up with a dual axle trailer with brakes for 400.. Thats pretty good score..

If you end up asking make sure you post it's a stringer drive in the title

I'm convinced it's a cable issue. Plus, the panel where the shift lever attaches is falling down, so I think that's why I couldn't get the drive to engage. The marina is still interested. I'm going to pack up and head down there.

I'm going to drop it off, then bring the trailer home empty, leaving the Mariah there for a few weeks. They are busy getting ready for a boat show, and I need to do some work on this trailer.

Anyway, I'm pretty happy. I know I could make more money by parting out the boat myself, but this sure is easy!

Thanks guys,
Steve

Rule number one when selling anything - take the first offer! I think you are doing good at $400 - and getting a heck of a deal on the trailer at the same time. Yeah, the marina will turn it around and make some money off it, but that's what they do. Better their time than yours! Leaves you more time to enjoy the Mariah!

Re: I want to purchase, then part out this boat...

Boat is gone! Tell you what, I learned today just how little I know about OMC drives. Long story short, the drive is probably trash. The lower unit is full of water and it won't shift into gear. Engine runs though! The Marina owner was disappointed, because that's what he was really interested in. He still agreed to buy the boat for $350. I think that's fair. They pulled the boat off my trailer and went over my trailer with me, telling me what I should do before I buy the Mariah in a couple of weeks.

All in all, I'm happy. I bought this junk boat, ended up being worse that I thought, and 2 days later, sold it.

Now I have to spend some quality time with this trailer!

Oh, by the way, this boat that I sold was HEAVY! When I got on the road, I actually thought the brakes were dragging, or wheel bearings locking up. I have a Powerstroke F-250, and I can honestly say, it took more effort to pull that boat than it does when pulling my 97 Camaro on a 2000lbs UHaul trailer! Anyway, glad it's gone!

Thanks guys,
Steve

Oh, by the way, this boat that I sold was HEAVY!

Thats cause the foam in the hull was water logged... You scored to sell it for what ya did.. Be glad it's gone.. The seller kinda screwed ya, but ya wasn't going to go boating in the dang thing so ya did good..

Fix the trailer....
Bring the Mariah home. Take a bunch of pictures. We wanta see her.. Put a deposit on her so they don't sell it.. Wouldn't that suck

Re: I want to purchase, then part out this boat...

Well, my deposit was the boat that I sold yesterday. The marina is getting ready for a boat show and has no time to go through the Mariah and check it out. Plus it gives me time to fix up the trailer. My goal is to basically make this trailer like new again.

The owner of the marina assured me the Mariah is mine. He even took it off the web site.

I'm getting there!
