Here are some parts that I have found for my motor...keep in mind that it is a 1972 Evinrude 85Hp selectric outboard.

The model Number is 85293R and it is a Starflite

The remote control assembly is 0279452 is NLA, but found one for $85.00 at tcoutboards.

The powerpack numbers that I have found are:

(A) 113-7123 and it was $250.25 US.
(B) 0397123 original part number
(C) 18-5749 Sierra part number was $245.87 on ebay.

The stator numbers are:

(A) 173-0744 and it was $114.40 US.
(B) 580744 original part number
(C) found a price on ebay for $99.36 US.

The rectifier/regulator:

(A) 153-3408 and it was $30.03 US.

The harness for the motor:

(A) 413-9907 and it costs $140.00 US.

The ignition coil:

These are just some numbers for anyone who has this outboard, and wish to find parts for it. Just some research I did for anyone who is interested.

That's a cherry picker, that's what you need. I rented one for the removal. It was like $25 for a day. I will rent again for installation.
It looks like that motor has a lifting hook next to the flywheel.
An old Evinrude I had had a hoop that folded down next to the flywheel for lifting. Unfolded it would center over the flywheel nut. A picture from the top of the motor should show it if you have one.

You have a great boat to restor. I would clean and prep the bottom and seal it from the inside but not spend alot of time and extra money to try and get as good of a finish on the bottom as above the water line. Question is what kind of running condition is the engine? Here say doesnt count........did you hear it run and shift is what Im trying to ask? You have come to right place ,your photos will be enjoyed Im sure.

The shop crane will work great. I used one to lift out the 302 I/O of my 76 Mark Twain while it was still on the trailer. Also used it to lift the hull at each end up over the trailer to make adjustments on the trailer. Just make sure you have some one help while heavy lifting, an extra pair of eyes comes in handy to help avoid nasty accidents.

I just rented a shop crane that i got from my local rental place. That thing is awesome!!! I picked up the motor and rolled it out of the way and it took a few min to have the motor off and put down where i wanted it and i did not have to man handle it at all. It looked just like the one pictured. I want to make one someday but for now when im ready to put the motor on the boat ill just rent it again it was only 20 bucks a day or something like that.

Re: I will need lots of help restoring older boat...

I am curious to know if it would be better to have vinyl on the dash or just finished wood. I was going to go the puffy vinyl with gauges in it, but am thinking that it might trap water against the gauges and stereo. Does anyone have any ideas as to which way it should be done? I have seen both but am curious to know which was is better?

Also does anyone know if you can upgrade your stator to increase the power the outboard will put out? My 1972 Evinrude stator is only a 9 amp stator. How efficient is this stator and does it have enough "juice" to power a regular stereo deck while it is running?

Re: I will need lots of help restoring older boat...

Thank-you for the great replies. I am definately going to buy the boat now!. I have gotten replies on the motor and such as well in the johnson forum. I purchase the motor at the end of this month...hopefully. Anyways, I am so looking forward to starting my project. I just have to find a place to buy those nice fitting lids for storage compartments and such.
