I posted a thread about 3 weeks ago about changing out this horrible forums software we have inflicted upon you with something we will all like much more (ie easier sign in, speedy and searchable).

Here was the initial post:
http://forums.iboats.com/bbBoard.cg...;gpid=1238363#gpid1238363;results=1;results=1

I just wanted to update you all that we now have the new hardware purchased and configured and we will start getting the new software on it next week. We expect this migration to take up to another month but progress is being made! You will get the old iboats boards back! Let's all pray we get some of the old gang back that has left us over the years. :'(

Re: iboats boards software update

On the last forum change, I had a whole bunch of things bookmarked on my browser, and they were lost as the browser saves the URL and it changed when the software changed. Is there a way to store them internally on the board where I can see them afterwards too?

Re: iboats boards software update

bassboy1, I hope, but doubt that they will be able to do that.

But here is something you can try.

Look at the addy for this thread.
See the fid=20 and the 1248345 ?
Those numbers may be used to id this thread in the new software as well.

So go to all your bookmarked threads and copy down the forum id (fid=xx) and the thread number (1248345).

You may only need the thread number to find it in the new software.

Then after the switch, and whatever the addy looks like in the new software, just substitute the thread number, and give it a click.

Its a pain in the butt, but worth it if you have valuable info bookmarked.

But if the new software has a totally different thread id, it won't work.

Funny, but just today I found this site via a Google search:
outboardmotor.biz/

Searching on Google got me what I was looking for . . . here . . . 8)

iboats owns many dozens, if not hundreds of sites.
I've found some of my posts, on some of them. d:)

Yeah, I have seen them before roscoe, I was referring though to a more successful search thru Google than with the home based software . . . I was trying to figure out the first year for a 225 FICHT and got the answer here via Google . . .

I thought you had done something already. iboats has been timing out for the last couple of days for me. I have to comeback 2 or 3 times to read a post.
But by all means, get the ball rolling. And if I read it right, we are going back to the old forum?

Re: iboats boards software update

I don't know what the conversion will do to your bookmarks but my guess is that they won't work. The suggestions about keeping track of their thread number might be helpful but isn't a guarantee. The post about the search being better so you might not need them as much we all hope will be the case.

Again, it will take 3-4 weeks from now to hopefully make the transition but from what I hear about the new software it will be worth it. There have been several mentions of going back to the old software. NO CAN DO. The old software ended up being so bloated (it does not run on a database but on flat files - yikes) that we were told from the software creator that it was amazing it was still even running with all our members and posts. Full speed ahead and no looking back but to grab lost members and bring them back on!

Re: iboats boards software update

You can always use google to search just the iboats forums.
http://www.google.com/help/features.html#sitesearch
For example if you wanted to look for info on the forum for the 225 FICHT you would enter-
225 FICHT site:forums.iboats.com
in the google search box and you'll get results only on this board.
Makes for a nice trick if the search function on the board doesn't work. 8)

Re: iboats boards software update

Is this still going to happen?

The "search" function has pretty much driven me away.
