The top bar in the editor of this site has a spell check button on the far right. (ABC)

How do you get the spell checker to work?
Does it even work al all?
I click it and nothing happens.

I am getting tired of composing in Word just to use the spell checker and then pasting the post into the iboats editor.

I have never had to compose a message in word, all of the browsers I have used the last couple of years link to the dictionary in word and automatically underline the misspelled word when I post a message, then I just have right click on it to give me the options available for correct spelling of the word.

Funny, I've never experienced either of these. I've heard the spell check mentioned, but could never find it. Also I've never had the Word connection on here with the red line either. My typing is kind of sloppy and I have to check & recheck my posts. Interesting.

Maybe there is a blindness here in Vermont but, my wife and I could not see the "ABC" on the far right

I do use a google chrome browser and it has a spell checker built in which underlines words on my screen in red when they are misspelled.

As others have mentioned, you can write something out in MS Word and do a copy and paste.

I have the spell check on my iboats reply box....it's the last one in the row... I also have Internet explorer 7 with a google tool bar that has one too. I use the google one all the time.

It is the Button in the Attached Photo.
It only exists when you are creating a reply.
Not while just reading threads.

And I though I was the only one that couldn't get it to work! :D

That ABC doesn't show up on mine, the last one I have is the "QUOTE" button.

I use Chrome as well and don't have the spell check. Went to Internet explorer and there was the ABC button.
When I clicked on it, here is what I got.

Same as Don, except my primary browser is FireFox with no ABC. I only get it with IE and the same download message. I get no underlined words in IE, but FF looks like a drunk censor has been reading my replies or I maybe I really can't spell for beans.

What I really want is a "Do you really mean to say that?" or a "That makes absolutely no sense" editor. LOL

Re: iboats Spell Checker.

Thanks Don.

I downloaded the ieSpell manually.
Now if I right click I have a spell check in the menu that works on the reply editor. :)

But back to the original question. Let's not keep suggesting other ways of doing the same thing.

Does anyone have an iboats "ABC" Spell Check button that actually works?

From what I have heard so far, I suspect not.
Even two Moderators have commented on it not working for them.

It may have been killed during the site upgrade a few months ago.
The iboats I.T. team may need to get involved.
It should either be repaired or removed.

ieSpell is what I have been using for anything I've needed to type while using Internet Explorer. Works good.

I installed the program as well, but after I did, the button went away. The spell check didn't work, so no button and no spell check. Not a problem though, I hate IE.

Mac spell checks automatically, so the "spell check" option doesn't show in Safari either.

Its called iespell and you down load and install it, and once thats done its in the tools tab, and it works decently, but word is much better.

So it looks like it's official.
No one has an iboats "ABC" Spell Check button that actually works!

Reported to the IT guys.

But I would bet it's part of the VBulletin software to make it warn IE users to download a spell checker, but not actually be the spell checker. That button has no way of knowing where it is in your browser or how to get to it.

That would make some sense. I now have the ieSpell installed and it comes up on right click.
I believe you and others stated the Button disappeared after installing ieSpell.
My button is still there!
I think I recall it initially asked me to do the install long ago.
Now the button no longer generates a message, or does anything at all.
If it had gone away, I guess we would not be having this discussion. :)
