Rode a 1954 Pan every day for 10 years with no trouble. Traded it for a 26' Stamas.

As with most products there is nothing that a Destroy It Yourselfer can't screw up. Not that this would apply to you, just a general comment on one of my pet peeves.

We've (me and my dad) have always figured it to be a displacement issue as someone also stated. on the merc pump design you now exactly how much water is being pumped into the heads for each revolusion. So I recon it's a thermo dynamic issue.

I like to wrench on my own stuff, but I like to use it more.

I would love to see your shop. When I get my boat in order I would like to motor down and see ya, Harleys rule.
From what people have said it sounds like the rubber impeller is designed to bypass water at higher rpm's to maintain the proper water pressure to the head. So I guess we are stuck with the old rubber routine.

Yep, those old engineers had there stuff together...CadCam my rear end! Had an old Harley wrench tell me (a 40's dirt tracker) that he was impressed how someone LONG ago, MANY YEARS ago,,designed the block of the old girls (HD Knucks)...and the ingenious breather system.
Refresh me here..you are GH? ..come on down summer..big boat in the slip after 4th..butt end to the water..ugly old biker tilting a cool one in the back...'cross from "Hope"..
