Today, after leaving the office, I saw a boat for sale in the parking lot of a major constructing equipment renting business, and from the distance looked good for small lakes, so I decided to stop and take a closer look. It is a small center console (maybe 13 feet or less, dunno), and for my surprise, it is a Boston Whaler (very rare down here) powered by one hydrojet. It looks in good shape, but somewhat "abandoned" in the sense of not recent use, and maybe not recent care/maintenance (maybe sitting for a year or more).

Could you please give me advice on this boat? or where to look for more information? is it a good engine? is hydrojet a good option for occasional fishing? does it require a lot of maintenance or is it maintenance difficult?

Kesh,

It is called a "Rage". The boat is all Boston Whaler.

It is powered, I believe, by an OMC Turbojet. The Turbojet was basically a crossflow OMC V-4 connected to a jet pump.

Nothing mysterious about it, however, I think parts may be getting a bit scarce for the pump.

You can get more info here:

http://continuouswave.com/whaler/

Be careful on that website, those guys can be brutal.

hello
the maintence is more difficult to get to andmost corroded badly due to saltwater in the bilge. the pumps have to be maintained and can get expensive after a few years
good luck and keep posting

Go to ebay and search on Boston Whaler to see a few for sale.

I think I won't investigate any further, because I went to the website djohns19 indicated, and the stories behind this boat model are not encouraging...the hydrojet seems to be problematic (not enough power, weed clogging, etc

As a side note - they porpoise badly,to the extent that many owners sell them because they can't fix it. We have sold Smart Tabs for many of these boats and the owners have come back quite happy. You may be able to pick up a nice one at a bargin, then fix the porpoising issue and have a good boat.
