I believe that is a 1988 commercial model you have there. Can you show a pic of the whole motor to help me confirm?

Looks cool. I never seen colors like that before.
The lower unit is the split case style from the older 25hp JohnnyRudes (up to '84), but I see
it has a carb w/primer which came on the later '80s model motors.

How does she look under the hood?
Does she run?

Yeah I agree with Jasper your lower unit is the older style so I don't believe it is an 88' probably early 80's. That motor is really cool, I have never seen one like that myself. Thanks for posting pics of her :)

I had a heck of a time finding any info on your model and serial number. But I am pretty sure what you have is a commercial model. Another thing I was thinking is that it may be one of those kero models?

Re: identify my 25hp Johnson

Johnson made engines to run specifically on kerosene. I guess most were sold over seas in countries where gasoline was not as readily available. I have heard that you can even run the normal engines on kerosene but you have to start it by spraying gas down the carb. Apparently you cant really troll or idle well with kerosene though. I am not going to test the theory with my engine though lol....

I searched another site for you model number and the 25RWA comes up as an 88' again. The CD in front I cannot find the code for? I am pretty positive the C stands for Canada. The D is supposed to mean remote electric but your motor is not a remote electric?

The D could also stand for Derated. But the Canada models usually say CE (Canada Derated-Electric start) or CR (Canada Derated- Rope start)

Needless to say I am a little perplexed by your model number :confused:

In post #6 on the first pic where the aluminum tag is on the motor (circle the size of a quarter). What does that tag say? Does it match the model on the transom bracket?

The reason I said something about the kerosene model is I see things in the pictures that are not consistent with an 88' gasoline model. What does the line from your fuel pump go into, the white thing in pic #1 on reply #6?

Re: identify my 25hp Johnson

Ok this is what I think I can tell from your model number. I cannot figure out the year though, other than it is most likely early to mid 80's.

C= Canada
D= ?
25= Horse power
RW= Commercial with interlock
A= Model run or suffix

It is in the book. 1988 Commercial model. That's why it has the lower unit that it has.

I knew one of the older members would help us out :) Looks like I had it right the first time before I started over thinking lol...

Hey F_R you wouldn't happen to know why the lower unit is so much smaller on the commercial models versus the recreational models do you? The lower unit on my 88' 25hp looks twice the size of arthurs commercial model which seems odd.

Re: identify my 25hp Johnson

The commercial outboards used the split case. That case was used for many years on 18 - 40 horse outboards. It was a rock solid design and easy to work on. If you busted the skeg off you could buy the lower casing and replace it.

Hidef. You never could buy just the lower skeg. The g/c housing was line bored at the factory as an assembly. If you needed a lower skeg part you'd have to buy the whole hsg.
