I have an old Sears 4.5 hp that I am trying to get up and running. A guy helping me with it told me the capacitor and fuel pump is out. I know I am putting the cart before the horse because I dont have serial or model #s right now. Was the 4.5 hp common to many manufacturors so I can identify it. Someone several years back told me it is a Tecumseh, but I am not sure.
Any help is welcomed.

There were several suppliers for sears. Eska, Clinton, West Bend, Mc
Culloch, Tanaka, etc. It's a whole lot easier to ID with a model number to start with.

Re: Identify Old Sears 4.5 HP

I got the #s for the motor:
on the frame is model # 217-59462 serial # 207339,
on the motor is model # T642-15, serial # 6808743. The capacitors look pretty ratty and I would like to replace them, and it needs a fuel pump. I might go ahead and change the points if I can find them.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Plug your frame model number into this website. I believe the T indicates it's a Tecumseh engine.

Most parts you'll need, you can find here.

I'm in the middle of a 3hp Tecumseh refurb myself. Very similar to your engine.

Is it a Tecumseh, Eska, or both ? I checked out the Sears site, the model # matches with them. Is the coil assy the same as a capacitor? A friend is helping me with this and he said capacitor; did he mean coil? Also didnt see anything about a fuel pump at the sears site, maybe I wasnt looking in the right place.
