Well, my bi-weekly search of craigslist for items "needing work" has landed me as the owner of a 1970 Tri-Hull. I got the boat, motor and trailer for $650 so now i'm back in project mode. The hull actually appears to be in great shape. I can't find any indicator of rot anywhere. The seats are new, or newer than the hull. Even the motor is looking promising after I clean it up and do some maintenance. I'm thinking of trying to paint the hull.

I was wondering if anyone has heard of the "Jupiter 15" or Gemini Marine. Gemini is listed on the coast guard tag. A Google search for either turns up nothing.

Here are some pics.

Re: Identify this project boat

I have recently acquired an identical boat. Identical model/markings, hull and deck color, and hull in very good shape. Have you (or anyone else) found anything interesting about this boat? Also, how did you identify the year? My tag is faded and I can't make out any mfg date... Thanks!

I also recently boat this boat. I paid 250 for the whole thing. the add on CL called this boat "FunCraft". The boat is a 1965 fun craft. I assume this is correct because the engine #'s indicate it is a 1955. I am going to attempt to attach a photo here but I am a noob... I am looking forward to reading some of the advice on this site to help rebuild.

Re: Identify this project boat

So, after a bit more creative Googling, it appears that "Gemini Marine Inc." is long gone... so I went down a few other paths to try and find out more:

1) I looked at the NADA guide for used boat values, since it goes back to 1975 or so, to see if I could find "Gemini Marine". The only listing they had was for "Gemini Boats", which were produced between 1987-1990 and appear to be bass boats, center consoles, etc. But, this doesn't seem to be the right time frame...

2) On the manufacturers tag on the boat I found the following U.S. patent number: D220925. I looked it up on Google Patents and found the patent refers to the deck design (appears to be that of the Jupiter model) and was assigned to "Gemini Marine" in June, 1971 citing a man named Harry Boomer as the inventor. Here is the link:

http://www.google.com/patents/about?id=SsM7AAAAEBAJ&dq=D220925

3) Also, after looking at the FiberGlassics website (as suggested above), I was disappointed to see that "Gemini" or "Gemini Marine" are not on the list of manufacturers of classic boats. There is also nothing on Wikipedia or similar sites. Nothing here on iboats either...

So, there seems to be a solid lead as to the vintage of the boat: early 1970s. It's not much, but perhaps a good starting place to find out more about this mysterious company/boat...

Never heard of Gemini, but it looks alot like my first boat...73 Ebbtide Lakemaster trihull...great boat, kinda small but a good ride...the Lakemaster had deeper sponsons on the trihull though. Trihulls are smooth boats, but get kinda rough in big lake chop...other than that, smooth ride. Mine had a Merc 500 50 hp inline four...wish I still had that motor.
