Identify this?

1985 50hp 4 cyl 2 stroke serial #A131285

I found this part on the floor after removing power head and exhaust plate. Can't find it in the parts drawings and haven't a clue where it came from. Anyone know what it is and where it goes?

It probably dropped out when you removed the lower unit and it fits up into the forward cavity where the shift rod goes upward into the mid section. I don't have a page for your s/n engine but #33 in this link is what it is:

Looking up into that forward cavity, you will see two slots which accept the guide unit in your pictures. You install that in there before sliding the LU up into the mid section.

You are quite correct!!!! I guess that is the only drawing I didn't look at closely.

FYI the serial #A131285 equates to 5531630 and up 1985 according to Mercury Marine.
