I have a 1974 115hp on a 18ft SeaRay and love the way it runs and accelerates. In other words I don't want to mess with it. But......it idles at 1000rpm in neutral and I have read that is a couple hundred rpm too high.

What is the simplest way to drop my idle and not affect anything else. Turn down idle screws(don't know yet which ones they are but I can figure it out I am sure with a little help) a little each on each carb?

I have read Clam's linc and sync also.

Thanks.

Re: idle adj on 1974 115hp

On the plate with the big long locknutted phillips screws you will notice one of them butted up against a chunk of the distributor housing at idle.

That is the idle stop.

By backing out that screw, and letting the distributor retard the timing a little, the idle will lower.

That is provided the throttle cable is adjusted correctly enough to pull the dist that way when doing so.
