99 Regal 2100 LSR 4.3 Carb Merc

Doing some preventive maintenance on the boat today, mainly water circ pump on the motor.
Question I can't find answer to in my manual-
Can you grease the bushing in the idler pully or do you just replace? There is no play in it. I am hearing a slight squeal from somewhere on the engine and am pretty sure that is it. Only after the motor warms up.
Also, do all 4.3 alternators jump around a little? Nothing is loose, just seems as the brackets are able to bend a little and the alt moves slightly when running.
It's nothing for us to boat down river a hundred or so miles one way on a Saturday, so I keep everything in great condition so we don't break down.
Thanks for your advice.

The idler pully runs on a sealed bearing and cannot be lubed.

It may be possible to replace the bearing in the pully.

Typically the idler pully and bearing is replaced as an assembly.

If its not mounted on rubber bushings [I think not] and it is tight, it should not move.

Re: Idler pully

Thanks- It's a 6203 bearing- I'll replace complete.
I dug in to the alt issue and found the reason the alt is jumping around is because the lower bracket was cracked in half. It was just being siupported by the upper bracket. I think caused bearing issue on the alt also. I'll find new or have it welded back together.

Cracked brackets are usually caused by viberations due to;
1..support bars/brackets missing or loose
2..bolts loose
3..belt loose and flopping
4..crank pully bent
5..bracket improperly installed ie, spacers, studs, ect

Look it over well!!!

Do your self a favor and replace the bracket.

Welded brackets never seem to hold up well.

Re: Idler pully

Thanks for the heads up re cause of bracket breaking.
Must happen a good deal as my parts guy had a bracket on the shelf. Would think that would be a real slow moving item as in non a stock item.
Merc P/N 807750T Alternator brace
