I have a 1981 mercruiser 260 rebuilt about 30 hours ago. It runns great all the way threw throttle. When we unload it idles 800 rpm nice and smooth. if I run it hard and back out it wants to idle about 1500 rpm, then some times it wants to go low and die. Is it the carb or points? any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Ayuh,... That's alittle High,... It should be 650/700rpms, at idle, in gear, in the water...

It sounds like the Carb to Me,... Maybe a vacuum leak,..??

Re: idling problem

maybe I'll get a rebuild kit and do it myself. The mechanic who did it ruined my entire mechanics of the boat and I gutted everything and put all updated in from lower unit to flywheel and the carb was the only thing left on the boat that he touched. thanks, Bondo
