if the stator (not starter) was not working would this effect the throttle or the engine from going faster than it should when at WOT under load because its fine in the tank or with muffs on but in the sea it seems really restricted like quarter throttle also the battery never seems flat?
if in deed i do need one how much should i be looking at from my local outboard centre as i don't want to get ripped off
he is charging me £20 just to test the old one is this right? as he has not even had to take it out because i have.

mariner 50 91 ish

any help would cheer me up at this point because im close to selling the dam boat

When mine went out, my 150 merc ran like cr*p. I just took it in and they charged me $385.00 to replace it.

Checking the stator is pretty simple, if you have a test meter.
Simply measuring the resistance between the two leads should give you an indication. If it is in the thousands, it is shot. It should be 700 ? ohms.

What a great site just found you guys.

The search button has brought me to this thread so it looks like my stator for my 82 115 merc should be somewhere between 350 to 650...?

It must be pretty labor intensive I think the stator is only like 80 bucks does that sound right..?

Thanks again great site..... :)
