Racerone, there are dealers, but at $20 a wire, or more, kinda hard to justify....since I can buy boots' connectors and wire for $20....

So for those who are still following...

I got the connections to finally work, but had installed the blue and white wires from the timer base backwards....once I discovered that she sparked (on one side). Found out I had a bad power pack. Replaced that and she pretty much fired right up!

Now does anyone know anything about backfires? While its cold, it has a hard time staying running unless I increase the idle throttle lever at the control. If the rpms drop, it coughs and dies. To ahift into gear, i have to drop the idle throttle all the way down and quickley shift into gear or it will die. When I throttle up in gear, it starts to back fire every few seconds, hits a big backfire, loses power for a few seconds and then runs back up.

I pulled the carbs, they are clean as a whistle, gaskets all look new(er). I disconnected the VRO and ran a bulb line straight into a 50:1 gas can, the seperator, and into the engine. Could this set up have anything to do with it?

Also anyone now anything about internal power tilt/trim? I here the relays firing when I push the trim up or down, but nothing happens.

Sheared flywheel key is a possibility as far as backfiring is concerned.----Sheared key changes the timing.

This "Backfiring".... Is it an actual extremely loud "Shotgun Blast" type sound firing out the exhaust... OR is it the standard type hesitation coupled with the spitting back scenario at the intake manifold that we usually refer to as the carburetors spitting back?

There has to be a key to control the timing !!!!!!------Take the flywheel off now and look for it.------No point doing anything else at this time.

Quick question - when trouble shooting the electronics for the tilt/trim motor, the manual says I should read battery voltage across two points...instead of 12.xxx, I got 25.xxx....why would it read double?

Wrong setting on the meter or misreading scale?

Measure across the battery & compare.

It wouldn't suprise me if it was something silly...any experience with trim/tilt systems? I want to change to motor but not sure if that will do it. I don't have the compression fittings specified tovdo the hydraulics test. In your experiences, would you expect the hydraulics to be the issue? Does it sitting since '07, presumably, have any impact?

Get someone to push the buttons while you feel / listen for the motor running.
Don't lose a finger or an ear.
Check the fluid level (by the book) and make sure the by-pass screw is done up.
