ignition kill switch

I am going to try some local fishing turneys this summer. But in need a ignition kill switch on my motor. How hard would this be to install on a 72 9.5 Evinrude?

all you have to do is short the coils, black wires, i beleive #28 &33.

The wires should already be there, leading from under the flywheel to starboard. The clips are both marked # 39 in the diagram. All you need is the right switch to close the circuit.

Probably not exactly. The original switch assembly is available from any BRP dealership with a parts department, but it is not a lanyard type modern killswitch, just a push button. It does have the clips that match the ones on the wires coming out from under the flywheel.

Is the original switch still there?

Yea its there. But for the turneys I need to have the lanyard type.

You could have both types, original push button and lanyard type , just wired in parallel. Either one would stop the motor....but for cosmetic reasons, replace the original with the lanyard type. Both original and lanyard type switches are open circuit. Keep the original switch for restoration later on.

I think that the one that Tashasdaddy shows can be made to fit, you may have to enlarge the hole in the metal case a little. I was thinking of trying it on one of mine.

The Seadog switch is more likely to fit. It has a smaller shank an I think the threaded part is longer at 7/16.-- Can't tell for sure without trying it though.

I put one on my 1956 Fastwin last month. It came originally with no kill switch at all. Simply took some wire, ran it to the points/coils connection on the points, brought it out under the ignition plate and the lower housing to a coiled wire cord. Mounted the kill switch on a bracket I will mount on the boat in the spring. It seems to work great. Put the clip on, pull the cord and I get spark, pull the clip off and it's dead. Took me all of 1/2 hour since I had it apart to do the coils and points anyway. Rick

It's convenient to have everything on the motor so you can take the motor off easily for service or to travel whenever you want to. I even have my tach on the one I use for clamming.

I didn't want to drill into the top cover. I have a quick disconnect plug in the cord. I do like your tach setup. Rick
