ok im new here so go easy.
I recently bought a 1968 evinrude 40hp big twin. Model number is 40853-a. It has about 2ft of wires coming out of the motor, then its all cut off, it has seven wires. I cant find any wire harness for it, its a flat plug... anyone have any suggestions, or should i make my own? thanks

Look at the top of the page in the "Top Secret File" sticky, there is a list of salvage yards there, maybe one of them can help you out with some used parts.
You can make your own if you are so inclined, below is a schematic of your engine with electric shift lower unit. If you don't have electric shift just ignore that part.

CDI Electronics and nymarine.ca both sell wiring harnesses. You'll have to check to see if they have the harness for your particular motor.

Cool, thanks!
I ended up finding one on ebay, so I'm going to go that route, but had to look through 450 postings to finally find it!
Thanks:D
