Hey there, anyideas where to get resistor wire for an ignition? I have a 1967 Evinrude 60 HP Sportfour that I had to make a new motor wiring harness for, and need to locate the resistor wire. Thanks guys...........Zeph
Disconnect the red/white candy striped resistor wire and put an external resistor on the original omc (non resistor) coil...or...disconnect the resistor wire and install an automobile coil with internal resistor built into the coil. Run a standard wire in the resistor wire's place.
I did an auto coil with internal resistor on a 1965 75hp OMC and it worked fine. A trusted OMC dealer gave me that advice in 1985 when I bought an old classic glass boat with the motor. OMC coils were no longer available so I took the dealer advice. Auto condensors also work on the ignition.
Don't know resistor values but if any generic 12v auto coil works as a swap then logic tells me any generic ballast resistor for a 12v auto coil should work. They cost $7 at the auto parts store. A new auto coil with internal resistor only costs $25 and eliminates old dated coil woes.
