First off I was wondering if someone could confirm what year my 55hp Chrysler outboard is with model # 5571 and Serial # 10291? Then I was wondering what ignition switch I would need for this engine...standard 6 terminal push to choke universal? or do i need one that is compatible w/ magneto or ? Any help would be tremendously appreciated.

Re: Ignition Switch Question w/ 55hp Chrysler Outboard

The same pust to choke six terminal switch will work on battery ignition, magneto ignition, and CD ignition. The wiring for CD and magneto is the same and the battery igniton uses the same terminals but different wires.

If you have a magneto ignition, the two stop wires are connected to the two "M" terminals. "I" terminal is used as a source for switched power to instruments and anything else you want off when the engine is stopped. Of course, B, S, and C on any ignition are Battery, Start, and Choke.

Re: Ignition Switch Question w/ 55hp Chrysler Outboard

Thank you for confirming the year of my Chrysler outboard. So since you have the same the year as my boat, would you happen to know where I can find a float for my carburetor? I was also wondering by any chance if you knew the correct float adjustment heights for right side up and upside down? There's a plastic float in there now, which I know is better than the old cork floats, but the plastic float has a plastic tab that can't be adjusted for the float height right side up....this worries me since whenever I go WOT it takes the boat a while to get up to full speed and seems rather boggy...I'm wondering if it could be related to improper float height w/ the plastic tab???

Also, whenever I'm out on the water with it after having it run for a good while and sitting...whenever I go to start it, it won't completely crank over and run until i adjust my idle speed up a bit, it does seem to run better with idle speed turned up but then causes to jump into forward gear rather rough...I'm wondering why this is and to be honest I haven't changed my lower gear unit in about three years so what would be the best lower unit gear for this old Chrysler?

Any help at all to my plethora of questions would be greatly appreciated...and just to mention Im new to boat engines in general, but have done quite a bit of work on cars.
