I need to add a new ignition switch to my '77 Evinrude 35 hp. It has 5 wires: black, white, black/yellow, red/purple, purple/white. Can anybody tell me where to connect each wire to the coded ignition switch terminals ? Thanks

Howdy Riely

The pic below shows how to wire it up. The two magneto ones shown should have one going to the magneto and the other going to ground (doesn't matter which

Black = M (grounded)
Black /Yellow = M (raised if one is)
White = Start
Red/Purple = Battery
Purple/white - Choke

Note, the two M terminals, one may be raised, maybe not. If one is raised, connect the Black /Yellow to it. Otherwise, it doesn't matter which one you use.

Looks like F_R is the only responder who bothered to read the OP's post, or at least understood it. :facepalm:
I'd be curious how they'd match their suggested configuration to what the OP listed as his wiring colours. :confused:

Well since the only other responder was me I'll see if I can help. The OP asked (Can anybody tell me where to connect each wire to the coded ignition switch terminals), so while I did not state which color went to what function, I do believe the OP could read and see by the color coded wires and the function names identified on the pics. If your still having trouble maybe the OP could help you.

Mine was supposed to be an observation, not really a criticism. On re-reading it is overly-abrasive; my apologies.
