ignition timing johnson 6 build 1970

I am looking for the ignition timing and adjustment for a johnson 6hp. The engine is green with a white top.<br />I removed the johnson carburator and put in place a evinrude carb from a 6 hp fisherman. Further I changed the unit that moves the linkage on the carb. My question : is the position of this unit fixed? ,I know it regulates the ignition timing and tried some positions until the engine runs ok.<br />The unit is fixed on the disk just below the flywheel.

There is a mark on the cam follower (the unit that moves the linkage. That is the timing adjustment for this engine. There is a mark on the cam that should be linged up with the right side of the carb linkage at the exact point that it makes contact with the linkage. Find a manual on ebay and the procedure is listed.

If the linkages you replaced and the carburetors were the same, then the timing should be the same. The timing is set by gapping the points at .020". There is no external adjustment for timing. You can adjust the synchronization of timing and the throttle by setting the throttle cam to make first contact with the cam follower at the timing mark....<br />- Scott
