As much as I disagree with most of your political veiws, you have this one nailed, its not going to do a thing. Its all just trying to appease us people that want something done about all the illegals, without actually having to do anything about the real problem and get tough and make themselves seem insensative.

We are petty close to agreement on this, HM.<br /><br />Unless the "enhanced border security" SEALS our borders, and works, we will see 1986 all over again. That granted conditional amnesty to around 3 million. Now we have another 11-12 million because the border has been as pourous as the Seattle defensive line. The 1986 law, instead of stopping illegal immigration, encouraged it.<br /><br />I fully support the "guest worker" idea, but only if only the qualified guest workers are the only aliens present.

Shrub was just meeting with the presidents of Canada and Mexico. Do you think he said “ok guys, how we gonna keep you folks on your own side of the borders?” or do you think the discussion might have been more along the lines of “ok guys, how we gonna integrate our countries into one big one like the EU?” Keep in mind that Shrub is just as much of a one-world’er as Clinton was/is.

In the long term I think your righ on. I hve said that for years. Im probably not opposed in some ways. Were supporting Mexico anyway, sure it will drag us down and them up, eventually we would meet in the middle. My problem with it is overcoming the corruption in the Mexican govt. We think we have corruption in our govt. sure but it is minor compared to thiers. <br /> Thoughts on this anyone.

I don't think there are expectations of greatness from the Mexican government, now or in the past.<br />So corruption of mediocracy at best is a minor inconvienience.<br />With a government such as ours, one with great expectations, international power, influence and what we supposedly stand for. In that perspective the degree of corruption in our government is much greater.

It would be great that Americas (north and south) is one big union but with South America being pretty much a third world country full of drugs of every kind? think about how easy it would be for our kids to get a hold of cocaine and God knows what else if there are no border. Taking on Mexico and the like would be an enormous burden. Someone mentioned corruption, if it's made it to the government level, it's in the culture and hard to get rid of. Remember what happened to the Soviet Union? corruption brought them down, all the way down.
