ilt trim oil ?

well I got my tilt/trim resealed and am wondering about oil for iti have been told by a good source that I can use 30wt nondetergent oil or ho 32 hydraulic oil.i bout some hydraulic oil but my question is that it says it is aw32 instead of ho32,it also says it has detergents in it.did I buy the wrong stuff?the only thing I am wondering on the 30wt oil is when it gets a little chilly here in Oklahoma am I going to have a problem?thanks,tom

The older prestolite used 30wt.
The newer Mercury uses the T/T fluid or tranny fluid.

aw stands for All Weather. Should not have any detergents, if it does then read the label and make sure fluid is engineered for rubber seals.

aw32 and iso32 both work great on 3w force trim. on 2w trim they have a tendency to bounce and 30wND is the easier choice (since it doesn't bounce).

hi,iam working on a 1985 85hp force us marine.i know rritt and I talked about this and the only thing that bothers me about 30wt oil is getting to thick to operate correctly when it gets colder.the manual for this motor says to use the 30wt oil.

I just read the label and it doesn,t say anything about what effect it has on orings.when you talk about 2wire and three wire there is 3 wires going to the switch is that what I should be looking at?

force switched from 3w to 2w in 1988. 1987 and earlier should be 3w. 1988 and later should be 2w. in 1988 they switched motors and adjusted the valve body gearing. 1988 and later have problem with bucking if fluid is too thin. All years have problem with pressure if fluid is too thick.

1987 and earlier can use either Hydraulic oil or ND motor oil. 1988 and later should use 30W ND motor oil.

I have decided to use the sierra tilt/trim oil im know it is more expensive but I can't find any non-detergent hydraulic oil.should the motor be in up position or down when I fill the reservoir?thanks,tom

30wt oil is all you need.
The factory manual calls for 30wt.

you've never said what year engine you have. As such, Jerry is right. 30W non-detergent motor oil is the safe choice.
Sierra trim fluid is probably a 10W oil and is too thin for 1988-1992. As regards those detergents in AW32. I'm not so sure they are detergents. Did you double check that label? AW32 should contains some additves. But they are to extend life of rubber, prevent shearing in pumps gears, help with moisture absorption, etc. etc. AW32 is not meant for motors and has no need for detergents.

I read the label again and it says contains advanced detergent/dispersant.

I use the T@T and 30wt.fluid as a lube for the steering.
It works great on the steering shaft.
I found the grease will eventually gum up the works.

I have read that acetone+H.O. (or ATF) makes an great penetrating oil.
