Ok, asking this question within a boating forum is like asking Teresa Kerry what her favorite ketchup is... but... I have an internal conflict I need to talk out.

I got money. And I want to buy something... :D

<COMMENCE BANGING HEAD ON WALL>

Herein lies the problem. Boat or Jeep? I have neither. I want both. I've had Jeeps in my family since I was born. I must keep the tradition going, yet there is nothing like cruising across the water in your own boat. Yet, there also is nothing like a weeking in the woods creeping through a trail taking in nature, roof down, doors off. Hmmm..

<TERMINATE BANGING HEAD ON WALL>

What do you guys (and gals ;) ) think?

Sean

Buy a boat, rent a jeep. Buy a nice boat and cheap jeep.
What will give you the most pleasure in the long run?

Buy the boat, and tell your family member that if they want to use, it that they have to supply the vehicle to tow it.

Boat, Boat, Boat. While you are cruising, or fishing you can create a Jeep plan. You can go to the same places in a jeep, you can go with any 2 or 4 wheel vehicle. But you can't take it on the water. Don't even think about an amphicar.

Tough one. We've had both and enjoyed them both.

I have to say the boat gave us more pleasure in the
long run than the jeep. You can only dune hop and
bury it in sand up to the floorboards so often.

The boat however, allows us to wave hop, explore new
fishing areas and we rarely come home empty handed. :)

Do you have enough to buy both used? Any boat is better then no boat as long as it floats.

With winter here, the boat will sit till next spring, most likely...though this is the best time to shop for a boat price wise...

The Jeep will get a LOT of use duting the winter, and maybe you can find a boat later:) I ould buy the jeep and enjoy it all winter long!!!!

Re: I'm Conflicted

Everyone but soulwinner made excellent points.... Sorry soul... but to swap a Jeep for a ricer like that is sacrelidge. With its roots back to WWII as one of the most influential pieces of equipment involved in the war, I am of the opinion that the Jeep was one of the main reasons the Allies won WWII. Sounds crazy, but think about it. Jeep perfected the 4x4. End of story.

LadyFish... I like your points especially since it is coming from a former Jeep owner. But the difference as spratt stated is that winter is longer than summer here. And that is one of the reasons I'm conflicted. I think I'm leaning towards a boat right now. Then get a late model Grand Cherokee as a daily driver which can be used off road as well with few mods as well as tow a boat.

Sean

If you were in a Mountinous region I would say Jeep, but since you are in the land of lakes I gotta say boat. Jeeps season (The fun part)is shorter than boat season up here and I think you will find the trail oppertunity limited. I have had both also and must conclude the pleasure offered was in direct relation to where I was living at the time.

You don't have to have a lot of trails to enjoy a Jeep...sheesh, just sitting in the seat of a 4x4 and driving it anywhere is the fun part:) :) :) I love 4x4's...I like boats...so the bias bleeds thru!!!

Re: I'm Conflicted

I've been driving a Jeep wrangler for about 4 years and 120,000 miles...yep, it's my daily driver and I don't want to think about driving anything else. I even love the soft top in the cold up here in winter (it's not cold, just noisy). I've been towing my boat with it (just a 14' bayliner) for a couple years....but that's gonna change. Looking at getting a bigger boat in the spring and the old Jeep just ain't gonna cut it. The water has taken precedence over every other hobby.

Just comes down to what you like to do more. If you don't know, go used and get both. You'll get rid of one or the other probably in the end and will answer your own question. :)

Ain't that the truth. Watched my Vette go after I started boating.

Re: I'm Conflicted

Yeah...as opposed to a Vette, people think I'm just a little insane to love driving a Jeep with a soft top..especially during the winter. The saying is true..."It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand" :D

Think of the perks though, in the woods or parallel parking in the city...it's short and has a truely awesome turning radius! And just driving the thing down the road is like being off road in anything else!

Re: I'm Conflicted

Sean
I hate to bust your bubble but a Grand Cherokee is a station wagon not a jeep! Call it what you want but, at the end of the day it is still 4 wheel drive station wagon. I'm with JB on this one.
BTW you won't find a better driving station wagon on the market though!
:D :D :D

Re: I'm Conflicted

Link : Yeah, I agree it isn't a short-wheelbase Jeep. But, that doesn't degrade its abilities as a 4x4.

I provide the following website to support my theory.
GC Buildup

Can you see that being done with the latest Chevy Trailblazer? Nope... it has an independent front suspension. :D

But judging by your post... I'm preaching to the choir....

:D

Sean
