Re: I'm falling apart

Well, just got back from getting my 2nd cataract done, no jetskiing, or boating for me for the next 2 wks :( Next is the torn meniscus in my left knee, (plus the nagging arthritis) I've been hobbling around since March with other more pressing medical issues, thought I could put it off till Sept. but No, by the time I get this setup, & done, I guess it'll be another few wks of no boating!
It stinks to get old! By the way Tyme, I'm 5'-10" and hover around 250lbs also, I would be less, but I inherited heavy legs since I was a kid, I'm pretty active, but can't lose it unless I go on a crash diet, & exercise my butt off,,,lol,,, sometimes I feel like a walking advertisement for all that happen's to you when you get old  but I refuse to accept it, people tell me I look good for my age, (heredity also) but they should know all my issues, & how I feel some days, but anyway, as long as I feel ok, I don't dwell on the negative, I just want you to know I can identify with you, and I feel for you. Good Luck, Mike

Hang in there TTF.

BTW, the difference in diabetes type doesn't have anything to do with when it happens. It's simply that in Type 1 your body does not produce insulin (can occur/exist for many reasons) and in Type 2 the insulin your body produces is not efficient...

OK you blokes....I havn't followed every post in this thread, but I have been thinking about the situation since the 1st post.....and tonight....bingo....there is a 10 minute program on it.....with the results of a study and trial conducted by a Professor in one of our best Universities (Monash)

http://sixtyminutes.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=587150

full transcript is apparantly available tomorrow.

The cost initially seemed high to me, but on 2nd thoughts, you could probably eat that much up in food and drugs and worry in 2 yrs.

What amazed me was that the patient they choose to follow, (outside of the trial....I mean after the results of the trial) was free of diabetes in 3 days, and patients that had the procedure during the trial, looked pretty good....literally a new chance at life.

If i was in this situation, I would certainly pursue information in this area with a very open minded approach.
If you are really interested and have difficulty in accessing the info, let me know.....maybe I can help from this end.
Cheers
Phillip

Re: I'm falling apart: Update

my turn..... I need a knee but I can't have surgery due to my heart ...so I live with it. Possibly in a year or two I will get both replaced..... I think it is related to jumping out of planes.

On Tuesday I had an eye exam and need new glasses (bi focals) and my left retina has a hole in it.... small hone but a hole... there is scarring in both eyes and the last thing the eye Dr said was be careful..... one hit in the head and I could be blinded.... hmmm.

On Wed I had yet 2 more appointments .... my cardiologist asked me when would I like to schedule open heart? What!! Well there is still a blocked artery and they were unable to install a stent. I am living with angina and I told him I would stick it out.

Onto the regular Dr who checked my cholesterol, sugar, and PSA well my cholesterol went up to 146, PSA is 1 and no sugar problems..... my regular Dr said I am healthy but should lose weight.

We are all getting old! Do you carry a med list in your wallet like me? ;)
