Re: im green

First we need some more info on the motor. to find the year look on the side of the motor bracket that hangs the motor on the boat. There should be a metal tag with a model and serial #. then do a search for the model and year. (eg. mine is a 72ESL50 =1972 Electric shift 50 hp.) That will better help us un derstand. Chances are I would change the lower unit oil but once again depending on what you have depends on the oil needed.

Re: im green

For a "new to me" motor with unknown maintenance records, I would:
Change the spark plugs
Change the water pump impeller
Change the lower end gear oil (don't take out the phillips head screw!)
Check the gear oil after the first run to make sure it's not leaking (water in oil).

Fuel-oil mix is 50:1, TCW-3 two-stroke, water cooled outboard oil. Regular 87 octane gas, but a good idea to run a fuel stabilizer with modern ethanol blends.

Re: im green

one last question reguarding fuel mixture, when you say 50:1 if i get 3 gal of fuel how much oil would i add? 50 parts of the gas would 1 1\2 gal how is the oil figured in the mixture. It might sound stupid but i want to get it right.i never mixed gas and oil for a two stroke engin before.

Re: im green

That little measuring jug is a vital part of premixing fuel. Get more than one of them and leave one on the boat.
