I envy you and cannot wait to join you in the smoke free lifestyle. Maybe when this divorce is over I can be a little better to my lungs................

I'm in my 12th week, I feel so much better, my friends are so proud of me. And my wife (who never has smoked) ends each day saying "Hey wanna see me naked?" Life has never been better for me (short of this economy B.S.) I know I will never smoke again. I quit cold turkey, but used the patches (my company plan paid for them - FREE!) but I don't know if they helped. The big thing was - I decided to quit & I quit. Congrats to everyone who has done this - it's awesome to be smoke free!

Congratulations! Keep it up! Time is of the essence when quitting

I am trying to get my wife to quit. She says she wants too. She is trying the weening yourself off slowly method. Not the first time either.
I wish my dad quit sooner. He only quit after quadruple bypass Surgery in his 50s. By then it was too late. He still lived 15 more years but with a lot more health problems associated with smoking. Blockages everywhere. High blood pressure. He could have lived 20 more years probably if he hadn't smoked. Many people I know have died from Lung cancer and emphysema from smoking. All preventable. People take a otherwise healthy body and trash it. Just commit suicide

Re: I'm in my 8th. week!!!!!!!

Iv'e been off since Xmas, and having no trouble at all.
I had tried cold turkey, patches, everything so many times.

This time I went to the Dr and he put me on Champix (spelling?) tablets.
Talk about work real well. I can sit next to smokers and it is not an issue...I have just lost the urge completely.

I renewed my prescription the other day and asked the Dr if he used it on alcoholics too because it has even stopped me from drinking....well.....I use to have a beer before dinner, maybe a whiskey after....now I am lucky to have a beer a week...it just dosen't bother me.

It is not cheap, but without a doubt it has been the easiest path I have ever taken.
Recommend it to anyone.
If you are having trouble then give it a go.

Hope I will be the same in the future.

Now for something more serious.
I went to a friends funeral friday...70yrs old....been off the fags for 20+yrs....just diagnosed with lung cancer.....had a heart attack on the op table and survived, followed by a fatal one the next day.
My question is....they reckon most lung cancers are from smokers.....once you have been a smoker, are you always prone to lung cancer?

Cheers
Phillip

Bob, that's probably my toughest time of day...with the morning coffee.
I'm doing the Chantix thing right now. I don't know how well I'm doing. I seem to be cycling. But I've got about 5-6 weeks max left on the program.
After 2 months, I'd say you have it licked. Congrats.
Do you still have cravings?

Re: I'm in my 8th. week!!!!!!!

Tomorrow I will complete my first week of not eating ... does that count? Had that rev last Sunday and have gone pretty much cold turkey ever since. Only had a couple of slips. Might start eating again in a week or two ... then should be able to control my urges. I might even be able to get back into my 34 jeans (which I haven't seen in 25 years)!

Congratulations!

I have just completed my 25th month.

You are never going to reget quitting. You really never stop having urges but they pass.

Im a smoker that is thinking about quiting and when i hear people say that you never stop having urges, its kinda discouraging. I will stop when the weather gets warmer but a few family members have told me that same thing about the urges. Great Job Bob In Calif!!!!!

Congats everyone for your efforts and success!!!!
I have not smoked for 8 weeks and two days as I write this.
It wasn't my new years res or anything, it just happened that way.
I'd wanted to quit my pack and a half habit for a while.
Smoked for 18 yrs solid. Decided since wfe was making me go down the street to pub for New Years anyway I'd give this idea a shot. It worked,
and here it is. When I go to bar I drink, BUT this time I got uncharacteristically HAMMERED on New Years and didn't leave the house or step outside for nearly three days as was my exacting plan. The hangover poisoning helped. The low level of activity and my throat being so sore from abuse allowed me to refrain from smoking for that long and then I was able to begin living life as normal again. Yes , I KNOW ALREADY that that was a dumb idea to drink that much, but it worked. Lollipops and gum have failed me so many times before so I now consider them to be crutches that kept me under the idea of needing something to get by. Cold Turkey is the only way for me. Gum, Pencils, and lolipops just made me think about smoking. For the first time, I haven't been thinking about them at all even in the most stressful situations. The past eight weeks have been a breeze. Had to look at calender to figure it out. Record b4 now was 17 days -every single one of them torture. No anguish this time. Please don't try this at home.
Pride comes b4 the fall so please let this be a record only.
Congrats again everyone.
