Hi everyone! I recently acquired a Duranautic offshore 14ft aluminum boat with a Merc 75. The boat had been sitting for about 10 years and needed a transom repair and I had the motor checked out and it ran strong, even in the lowest rpms. I joined this site because I want to learn as much as I can about boating as I can tell it is already becoming an obsession. If anyone has any tips or advice on running this outboard that would also be great! I believe it is from the 80s since that is when the boat was built. I can post the model # tomorrow. Thanks in advance everyone!

p.s. Here is a joke since I am new to the board!:

A turkey sandwich walks into the bar and says to the bartender,

"give me a shot of whiskey."

and the bartender says,

"hey buddy we don't serve food in here"

Just one tip, be careful. A 14 footer with a 75HP motor is very likely overpowered. You might check the coast Guard capacity plate. Sometimes if you push a hull faster than it was designed to go, it will become unstable and perhaps flip over....

sorry for the misunderstanding. I believe the motor is called a merc 75, but it is only 7.5 horsepower :) definitely not overpowered;)

Congratulations and great motors!!!

Suggest you get a Mercury service manual and Mercury parts list direct from Mercury, check their website. And I like Seloc manuals too. Ebay also has these if you are patient and watch.

First step is to get the serial number and figure out the year, check the top of this forum. Lots of smarts here to help you out. I would start by changing and inspecting the lower gear oil and changing the water pump. If you make sure you always have correct oil in your gas, these will run a long time.

Good luck!
