40% gov Perry from Texas said 2 days before he was reelected that he agreed with a sermon that he attended saying all who did not believe in God and Jesus would go to hell.

Wish he had said it two weeks earlier it might have cost him the 5 % needed to kick his azz out like it should be.

If you don't believe in God or Jesus, why would you care if someone that does, thinks you are going to hell?

I mean, I was raised Protestant. I hold no faith in God, though I do believe Jesus was a real person(for obvious reasons). But by not following the Christian faith anymore, I naturally don't believe in going to hell(or heaven)... because I don't really buy the whole thing.

So why should I care if someone thinks I'm going to a place that I don't believe exists? And noone can prove it exists, either. So what's the problem?

Religion is the crutch the weak and immature use to ward off the one irrefutable fact of life.... when you die, you are dead.... forever.

Well, there's no more proof of that than there is proof that the Christians are correct...or for that matter, scientologists. My belief is I don't know who the eff created the universe, or what the eff will happen when I die, and neither does anybody else. End of story.

Honestly I think religion is the worst thing that ever happened to society. More wars and deaths have been caused by religion than nuclear bombs...

There have also been an immense amount of people that sacrafice themselves in the name of religion to help others. You can't just ignore that part of it, to say religion is a horrible creation.

I shudder to think where we would be today, without the morals instilled by the religions of the world. Wait, I know where we'd be... just like the dogs, monkeys, and elephants of the world, except a bit more chaotic.

Religion was a way to organize people, when they had no other way to organize and explain the world. With organization comes both good and bad, usually more good than bad.

This great country was founded on chrisitan beliefs. Do the wars we fight outweigh the people we save daily?

All I know is even doctors say you need to be healthy physically, emotionally, and spiritually. How you arrive at that is for the individual. I don't question anyones religious beliefs (for the most part) but I think I enjoy the company of those who at least admit there is some kind of higher authority. I have to confess the attraction of these mega churchs of the almighty buck elude me.

Is a religion without rules really a religion?

My contribution to the religious discussion:

In the serious times of this season, it is important for all of us, of all faiths, to Recognize these Four Deep Religious Truths:

1. Muslims do not recognize Jews as God's chosen People.

2. Jews do not recognize Jesus as the Messiah.

3. Protestant s do not recognize the Pope as the Leader of the Christian World.

4. Baptists do not recognize each other at Hooters

I had hoped, fruitlessly, that with the election over some of the political squabble would die down, at least until the left screws something up real bad. No hope.

How about this:

All Gods are real.

No Gods are real.
This question is a political epitome, by a master politician. Everybody knows God is real and she is a Republican. :^:^:^

Conflagration? A large destructive fire?[/quote]

Glad you liked it. Here's a few more..

With soap baptism is a good thing. Robert Ingersoll

Sacred cows make the best hamburger. Mark Twain

The most preposterous notion that H. sapiens has ever dreamed up is that the Lord God of Creation, Shaper and Ruler of all the Universes, wants the saccharine adoration of His creatures, can be swayed by their prayers, and becomes petulant if He does not receive this flattery. Yet this absurd fantasy, without a shred of evidence to bolster it, pays all the expenses of the oldest, largest, and least productive industry in all history. Robert A. Heinlein

Samsam, many people often say that respecting someone elses feelings is a good thing. Many people often say that to needlessly insult other people's religious feelings is worse than just plain stupid

Needless? This thread is about religion. The start was All gods are real/ no gods are real. A few pokes are going to bring down the temple? To question weak points in an absurd belief is 'worse than stupid'. Why is that?

Re: I'm sick of politics. Let's discuss religion.

It is because there is a deep divide between discussing abstract concepts and expressing concrete insults.
For the record,it is not my religion that you claim to be an absurd belief.
The abstract idea of a god can be accepted or denied.Religion on the other hand has existed as a concrete fact and as such has been the chief carrier of tradition and culture through the ages and will continue to do exactly that into the future.

How do you feel about Voodoo, Shamanism, and Witchcraft? Are they too a sacred cow like religion?

All those are different forms of religion.
Religion is not a sacred cow. It is respect for those who believe that matters to me

I have a question
Was there any gods before mankind inhabited the earth.
If so who was the first?
