I think Teddy Roosevelt once addressed the immigration issue perfectly. He said something to the effect that for us (US Citizens) to refuse admission to our country of an immigrant coming here to better themself would be unacceptable and untrue to our values.

He went further then and said that anyone coming to live in this country must be totally accepting to our country as his, we have room for only one flag, our language is English, we work to make America a better place and their main goal must be to become an US Citizen. Anything short of sole alliegance to our country, our flag, our language or our ethics is not acceptable.

Now I have paraphased and certainly some of you might actually find the speech and better illustrate my efforts, but by and whole I agree with these thoughts. All others need to go home.

Re: Immigrants

And the first to go should be the illegal immigrants as I am sure that Roosevelt was addressing legal immigrants.

Kwas, Yep and George W. would agree with this whole heartedly if it were not for his political advisers. He has seen first hand how illegals effect the economy right here in Texas. They pay no taxes but reap the bennies.

Mr. Alden, it can mean what ever you want. Just my old nickname actually "hotdog," I had a tendency to showboat a little in my younger days.

Yep, you got OJ but he ain't the brightest bulb in the closet. Kidding OJ, and I appreciate your defense. Now what do you fellas think of Teddy's idea. Actually if you read about the founding fathers they wanted to ship back all the slaves as they became emancipated. Boy where would we be today if that had followed their convictions.

Re: Immigrants

Teddy's idea is fine. We only want citizens who want to be citizens and are willing to prove it. Our current Amnesty policy didn't work in 1987 and it won't work today, but by the time it comes to paying the piper the rats will long since found the cracks.

Our founding fathers were long since dead by the time the slaves were freed.

I guess we would have looked pretty stupid fighting a war to free people we were simply going to ship back to the land they were stolen from. Why fight the war??? Ownership rights to the slaves to do what some might consider more ethical but by the same means? It would have been easier, cheaper and more efficient to just buy them all if that was the plan.

It appears they did follow their convictions, hence we are where we are today?

Re: Immigrants

Pointer, Actually, the founding fathers considered that slavery was the ghost of the Constitutional convention and most all agreed it should be abolished, including Jefferson who owned 200 and Washington who owned 300. Washington freed his upon his death. The general consensus was that slavery was wrong but that the colored slaves should and could not mingle amongst the white population.

Included in their efforts was a freeze on new slaves being brought into the country beginning 20 years after the acceptance of the constitution and no laws could be enacted addressing the issue until that time.

John Adams during his presidency brought issue that the slaves should be freed and sent by ship back to their homelands.

Just a little fun history.

Now back to my preposition of be a US Citizen or get your visit over and go home!!!

Re: Immigrants

I would add that any law enforcement officer should be sworn to remove any and all illegal residents within our boarders. This includes, the local, state and county LEO's, CIA, FBI, Marshalls, Rangers, boarder patrol, duly sworn prison guards, etc.

I have issues with the legal system that turns a blind eye to this activity. Cops have given up arresting due to the courts willful desire to find any and all loopholes for the benefit of those who are here illegally.

I'm with you on this boat Pointer. I believe you and I would agree that Illegal means ILLEGAL.

Illegal is illegal. It is my understanding that there is a law on the books already requiring all law enforcement personnel to enforce our border. The problem comes in when the LEO's are told not to by local authorities.

Re: Immigrants

There are three types of aliens here.

1. Immigrants, who entered our country legally and intend to stay and become citizens. These are the people whom Teddy was addressing.

2. Alien visitors who entered our country legally and intend to leave when, or before, their visas expire. These include tourists, students and temporary (green card) workers.

3. Illegal aliens who either entered our country illegally or overstayed their visas. What their intentions are is irrelevant unless and until they become legal immigrants or temporary workers or leave. They are NOT immigrants, they are ILLEGAL ALIENS.

PLEASE stop lumping the three together as one group. They are not.

Just because those pecalumers in DC can't tell the difference is no excuse for normal people.

JB forgets the fourth kind. The fourth kind are from outer space and have infiltrated the government. Most call them "legislators"
