I was wondering if the Impeller for a gen 1 will work on a mer1 drive? I was given a new Impeller, plate and a few differant gaskets. From what i have seen I thought it might fit....and for free well i was going to take it regardless. I just dont want to open up the drive if i dont have the right parts. This is going to be my first time in the drive besides the bellows.

Re: Impeller Imterchangeability

I just bought a impeller kit from iboats for a model 1 drive, and the part number is the same as a alpha one drive. So, yes u can.

Thankyou i had thought i remembered seeing that on iboats also but just wanted to make sure. did you change yours yourself? how complicated is it? I can turn a wrench and have the manual from the adults only just nervous about getting started.

Just lube it up a little when you turn the drive shaft Clockwise while pushing the upper housing down over it. Make darn sure you get the water tube in the sleeve.

The biggest diff in the early models is the lower housing, some have a flush plug some don't. The impellers are the same.

From 1967 to 1991 the impeller, housing and cup, base plate and it's gaskets were the same. That covers MC-1, R, MR and Alpha One drives. The difference was in the base. The really early ones had a flush attachment hole. Then they didn't. The MR and Alpha One was slightly bigger on the under side to seal the larger drive-shaft bearing opening in the lower box.

Simple answer to your question is 'Yes'.... :D

Also do what cr2K said, wizz a little grease around the cup before you assemble it all. Helps get the housing over the impeller and to protect the impeller on the first start.... (I've always done that too. :D)
