Hi <br /> I am new so please forgive me if someone already asked this question I have a 2003 mercury 60hp bigfoot outboard (90hrs) and when i was fishing tonite i noticed that there was no water coming out of the pisser on the side of the motor so i rushed back to the dock took the end of the hose off of the pisser and blew back through the hose out to the bottom started it up and bingo i had water (so i thought) i turned it off and waited a half hour or so i started it up and there was water flow but very week not like it used to be. It seems like something is blocking it on and off what can i do to look and see if there is anything blocking it on the inside because the outside is free from stuff. Also where is the impeller do i have to drop the lowerend to get to it and also if i have to drop the lowerend do i have to drain the fluid. (im trying to do this in the water if possible)<br /><br />Thanks for help

The impeller is unlikely to be worn in 90hrs, but possible. You can't really do anything in the water as the L/U needs to come off.

1) Verify the pump is working... Trace the water line from the pisser up to where it comes out the top of the engine. Disconnect the hose here, stick a 3/8' hose from the fitting and run the open end of the hose away from the powerhead (don't want to spray water on the engine with the cover off). Have someone hold the hose or wiegh it down, put muffs on the engine and fire the engine. Should be solid stream of water, if not possible blockage or bad pump impeller. If there is a solid stream of water, check the poppet valve. This is located at the bottom of the powerhead (trace the water line to a fitting on the bottom of the very powerhead). Debris trapped in the poppet will prevent water pressure from building up when the engine is at idle and limits the pressure when the engine is at WOT.

when i take the l/u off do i have to drain the fluid or is it sealed where the two parts connect

kingneptoon, No you don't have to drain the fluid... It is concealed around the gear case... It can only be removed by removing the drain plug at the bottom of the gear case... The only thing that flows through there is water/exhaust... You don't have to seal it with anything...

Some of the mercs get as bead of sealant along the rear of the pump housing next to the exhaust passage. You can't go wrong if you pick up a manual. If you don't want to spring 30 bucks for one, some public libraries stock repair manuals.

Wouldn't library manuals end up filthy and beat up? Maybe it's only me, but all the service manuals I have for any equipment I own end up greasy and worn. Just wondering - I'd never heard of being able to find these things in the library and have always bought them.
