Impeller location

Hello, I have heard (and read here) that my boat has a raw water pump. And not a closed system. It's a 1996 four winns with a 4.3L volvo engine with a penta SX drive. Engine model # is 432APHUB.
So, how do i change the impeller? And where is it located? Is the impeller in the water pump that is on the front of the engine? Or is there another in the drive unit? And if it's in the drive, does the water pump on the front of the engine just help to circulate the water? And do i need to change this one frequently because of wear? I have only had this boat two months and have yet to get a service manual. Also would appreciate a general direction on where to purchase a reasonally priced manual. A link would be real helpful. Thanks in advance.

Re: Impeller location

the raw water pump is mounted to the front of the harmonic balancer on front of your engine.

You DO NOT have a pump mounted on your harmonic balancer either, and there is no cover to remove.
You also don't have a Volvo engine, You have the OMC version of the Volvo/OMC joint venture. Your serial probably starts with a T if you want to look.
Either way, you have a belt driven pump on the lower starboard side of the engine. Easiest way (In most cases on small boats) to change the impeller is to remove the complete pump, replace the impeller and gasket, reinstall the pump and tighten the belt.
Your pump assembly looks like this.

Re: Impeller location

Thanks Don. I knew the first two repies were not correct. And Yes the serial does begin with a T. Also just figured it to be a Volvo because it says, "Volvo Penta 4.3 GL" on the air cleaner.
