Re: Impeller question?

You dont really need anything, but I personally add some dish washing detergent to my impellers before installation. Safe and problem free. While your lu is down, and you are waiting for parts, be sure that the water intake area is free of debris, and flush and backflush water or compressed air up and down the water line a couple times to ensure it flows freely. Also add some marine grease to the splines of the driveshaft. Be careful when reinstalling the lu, as it is common for the water line to shove the rubber grommet on top of the impeller housing into the housing, restricting water flow. Guide it up slowly.

Good luck.

EDIT: LOL, sorry, you beat me to it Jim, but at least we are on the same page! Took me a while to read through this thread.

Thanks to both of you for the advice, and sorry for the long winded post.

I get carried away sometimes, and don't want to forget or miss anything.

Well long story, short work! Took longer to write this never ending post, then it did to change the water pump, x10. :p

Evinrude OEM water pump kit arrived with everything needed.

Three bolts and the lower unit was removed.

Four bolts and water pump was taken apart.

New parts installed.

Four new bolts re-tightened.

O-Ring on drive shaft, grease on drive shaft, a little lube on new water tube gaskets.

Lower unit repositioned, and tightened with the three original bolts.

Throw it in the water and guess what? It works! :D

Piece of cake.

Now if it would just quit raining. Yesterdays high was 55 degrees with rain and heavy wind! In July!

Three whole days of summer so far this summer. Germany, enough said.
