Impeller replacement on Merc 9.8 help!

I'm trying to replace the impeller on this motor. And can't get it apart, maybe its just tight cause its old. I've taken off the two nuts for the lower housing, but it wont budge? Do I have to disconnect the shifter or anything. I don't have a manual. Any help would be great, thanks!!

no shift disconnect on these motors im afraid your driveshaft is seized to the crankshaft.... try putting a block of wood on the cavitation plate and tapping it downward with a hammer gently, when you re assemble it, make sure to add a little grease to the driveshaft splines and put a new o-ring on top if there is one that is...
