Re: impeller

is it really a alpha1 drive ya got. i'd woulda thought a 1 drive.

if it's a 1 drive. that brg. is just a big fat rubber washer that slides up and off the driveshaft for removal.....if it's an alpha1, i don't know the facts.......

Re: impeller

Ayuh,...... That Should be a Pre-Alpha,.... Mod.1 unless it's been Up-dated.....
Not that it really Matters,... The Waterpumps are virtually Identical.....
Slide the Rubber Slinger Washer off, along with the Waterpump Housing....
Then the Impeller slides off the shaft.......

No Bearings there.....

Re: impeller

are you talking about the actual impeller? that is the hardest thing to get off on those drives... everything else should come right off. Also get a manual.

You didn't just take the top cover off the drive trying to get to the impeller did you?
You have to remove the upper drive from the lower drive. The WP is on the lower unit.

Re: impeller

I've got a manual. I've got like, every little book ever created for this thing, Pretty lucky there actually.

I have the lower unit off.

I took off the top housing, then there was a little metal plate, then below that there was this plastic type peice, and then below that, there is a bearing pack, I could take a picture and show it when I get home if need be.

:EDIT: After looking at the illustration again, I guess there wasn't an impeller in there. Good thing I checked!! I took off too much stuff!!

ya should use yer mercruiser one then since ya got it. about the first page is the blowup of the lower. well, actually the 2nd. page 6A-2.....

from yer discription now. it sounds like ya went right on by the impeller and were lookin at the water pump base assy. which has a seal in it. past that is the theaded sleave, (early models only) roller brg and pinion gear brg. then a nut.

on the other hand, dons could be right. maybe ya took the top cover off the upper.....there aint no impeller in there like ya said.......use yer service manual. it's the best tool in the toolbox really.......

on the other hand. maybe ya should take some pics......

if you are in the lower. and do have the water pump base assy. off. now would be a good time to check for driveshaft wear too. if that's where yer at. look for a groove at where the seal rides. it'll wear a groove in the shaft and render it non servicable.......same for the top of the shaft too. the seal in the very bottom of the upper and wears the drive shaft just under the splines......

since ya got the manual. ya could use proper terminology too. that'd help everyone understand where yer at too......
