Imellor still won't come off, PB the crap out of it, is it supposed to come off pretty easy? 1987 Johnson 88 SPL. The guy I bought it from said he never changed the water pump or impellor. should I also look to change thermostat while doing the water pump?I'm not having an issue just wondering if it is something that should be done. Also when putting everything back together should I use gasket sealer anywhere and what kind should use? I'm also changing gear case gasket Thanks

I'm not familiar with your motor but I have ripped and hacked off the rubber to get to the brass collar and then hit it with a chisel.
It sounds like it would not be a bad idea to do the thermostat as well.
Hopefully one of the experts will jump in here and guide you the rest of the way.

Yes; it slips off and it has a nylon wedge/key against the shaft. It's frozen because it's been on there so long, but it is NOT supposed to be more than a slip on part.

If it has the wedge type key put a vise grip on the drive shaft and hold it. Then grab the impeller with a BIG channel lock pliers and rotate it clockwise looking from the top.

Put some sealant on the botom of the impeller plate and the bottom of the impeller hsg. Use OMC gasket sealing compond or Permatex # 3.
