In-Line Fuel Filter Location

I have a 1973 Evinrude 85 HP, with two portable six gallon plastic fuel tanks, and 5/16 inch fuel lines.

I want to put in an in-line fuel filter (clear disposable)...but would like other's opinion on the best location. (I know I have seen recommendations on this site before, but am unable to find them now)

Choices:
Between tank and primer bulb?
Between primer bulb and fuel pump on the engine?
Or...does it not matter?

That would be a matter of convieniance for you. It makes no difference where (in-line) you locate the filter.

I have always been told to put the inline filter between the tank and primer bulb. That way the primer bulb and engine are protected.

as close to the fuel pump or carb as is possible, fuel lines break down internally and allow tiny particles of rubber to get into your carb/engine. putting the filter as close to the carb or pump for multiple carbs with keep most of that gunk from causing you probs.
