I have a 1987 Regal Sebring 19' bowrider with a Mercruiser 470. I the motor runs but is rough. I was going to take it in and have it tuned up to get it running smooth again. When I start it I need to open the carb all the way up to get it to fire, if I don't it just keeps turning over without starting. I would like to have it back to the point where when I turn it over it immediately runs smooth. Will a tune up do this with come carb adjustment etc. or should I look for a new motor? If I need a new motor then which is compatible with the rest of the merc drive system or would I have to look for another 470?

Thanks for the help.

Re: In need of expert advice!

If you are going to take it in, take it in with the statement that it runs, or idles rough and is hard starting.

Let them do the diagnostics.

If you take it in as a tune up or carb job, they will give you what you ask for and may never even fix what is wrong.

There are a whole lot of repairs that can be done before an engine needs replacement. Let them do the diagnostics.

That way if mis-diagnosed it's their fault, not yours for telling them what to do.
