Dollar vs gold has dropped with gold over $600/oz. Housing prices are escalating are record levels. Wealth at least for us with lots of money is getting better.

How can this not be inflation.

Re: Inflation

The value of the dollar is likely to decrease further, China has started to mumble about owning too much of our debt and are starting a process to diversify their investments.
one only needs to look at their capital investments into Latin America.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4872522.stm

Re: Inflation

Gold is a commodity that bases it's value on supply and demand, just like oil.

Housing prices are very similar to a commodity.

The only good measure of inflation is interest rates.

Ken

Re: Inflation

I have not looked at the price of gold today but a couple of days ago I heard a gold market expert say that when it does hit $600 that there would be a correction in the market. There are many NEW younger players that are driving the rise unrealistically (inflation). After the correction the price should stabilize and rise to maybe $800...long term.
IOW, don't buy till after the correction.

Re: Inflation

Consumer prices have not increased drastically due to the high influx of cheap Asian imports, on the back end the trade deficit soars higher.
A steady devaluating dollar is begining make US treasury bonds unattractive to foreign capital investments, i hope that this trend does not continue, a collapsed currency is the something this country simply cannot afford.

Re: Inflation

The last time i looked the price of Gold was at 603.

The Feds have already raised interest rates at least three times in the first quarter of this year, each time it was said to be a correction.

Re: Inflation

It appears that our great economy is based on moderate interest rates creeping up and the fact cost of housing is rising.

I seem to recall in Macro-Economics that the major factor in evaluating inflation or depression was value of the dollar in the market and at the present time buying power seems to be deminishing at a rate greater than increase in the average income of the media consumer.

It is the old statitical trick of comparing rates against change of rate or for some apples and oranges. Oh well, just my thoughts.

W in '08.

FYI, you are contradicting yourself if you want inflation. Inflation indicates a growing economy.

Only Jimmy Carter could create inflation and depression at the same time. :D STAGFLATION!!!!!

Ken
