"Inconclusion, if you want more power than a 135 hp (factory limited) engine get a 6 cyclinders."

only if those cylinders come with a more efficient design engine.. or in the boating world an extra 50% capacity or with the V8 option a 100% increase in capacity..

more cylinders does not mean more power.. better design and larger capacity means more power..

euro gran pre racers years twenty years back had 3.5 litre V8s that generated about 400 odd horse power at about 8000 rpm..

as time moved on these 3.5 litre cars got too fast.. they dropped the capacity to 3 litres to slow em down.. after a while the smaller engines ended up thru better design generating 600 plus horse power at 10000 rpm plus..

another rule change to slow em down.. engine size got reduced to 1.5 litres and turbo charging was permitted.. result.. better design and pissy little 1.5 litre engines generating 800 horse power plus at up to 1600 rpm..

its now back to normally asperated 3 litre engines still generating 900 horse power at 1600 rpm..

during all this power changing the V8 engine configuration was the most commmon and i think it still is..

for a given size engine more power is gotten by either filling the cylinders more efficiently or simply by increasing the rpm which in many ways is the same as increasing the capacity.. example 3 litres at 8000 rpm burns the same amount of fuel in a given time as 6 litres at 4000 rpm and theoretically produces the same output power..

adding more cylinders without adding more efficiency or capacity would simple produce a more smoother running engine.. not a more powerfull one..

he he he.. just to keep things going..

trog

ps.. i think i slightly missread your comment to mean (more cylinders means more power).. at a second look it probably means in the boating world if u aint happy with the crappy four at 135hp buy a similar design crappy (50% bigger) six at about 200hp cos u really aint got any other choice.. he he he

OK, we have to put an end to this thread before Don S pull the last remaining hair outta his head. :D ( ahhh this is so funny. I can't believe i'm laughing at my own joke).

Obviously you guys have indepth knowlege on this subject. I'll make you a deal ( nothing happens without financial motivation). You write me a 50-100 page detail on this subject. Send it to me and i'll put it into publication (Iknow people in the right places). Then we can laugh all the way to the bank.
