Installation of a Porta Potti In a Supplied Head

Ok folks, here's my first question to this seemingly very knowledgeable group. My wife and I (50 and 49 years old respectively) purchased our first NEW boat in July of 2013. We have the NauticStar 223DC sport deck boat, that includes a fair sized HEAD under the windshield. This boat has an option of a pump out toilet, or a porta potti, or neither. The Head is a fair sized compartment, equipped with a light, mirror, toilet paper holder and carpeting around the perimeter. The lake I'm on, Lake Martin in East Central Alabama, has a shoreline of well over 700 miles. There are numerous marinas, but, as most of you know, when you gotta go, you gotta go! I'm considering installing a porta potti in the head, but have no clue what-so-ever what to really look for or where to begin. We do actually live directly on the lake, so emptying waste is not a problem. I'm mainly wanting to know how porta potties are installed, if they need to be dead level, and some of your experiences with them.

I'll assume you bought the model with neither?

Porta potties are self contained units that, at least in the case of the one on my boat, couldnt take more then 10 minutes to mount. There are three metal brackets that screw into the cabin liner, and that's it. I have a dometic something or other on my boat, that I would never let anyone use... Looks like a nice piece of equipment, but I'll never know.

I've been researching porta-potties to replace the one I have in my small head compartment under the console. I've found one with 5 gal. capacity that can emptied like any porta-potty, or actually be plumbed for filling and emptying at a pump-out facility. Look them up online and you'll find them.

Simple, easy to install and remove. I secured mine with Velcro so as not to have to drill holes.

nothing will ever be dead level on a boat so you're safe there. Just install it right side up.... :lol:

We have the 5 gal electric flush porta-potti on out tritoon and it works great and simple to set-up.

it only needs to be level enough to allow someone to sit on it w/o sliding off

there ARE pumpout porta potties as well... just fyi

I have a Thetford removeable porta pottie in my deckboat. If you're handy in any way and have some basic tools, installation should take less than a half-hour. My Thetford is easy to remove, dump and clean.
