I have a 98 Pursuit 2470 CC that I'd like to install a windlass on. It currently has a bow pulpit with a roller on the front for an anchor. My problem is that I cant seem to find a way to run the wiring from the windlass (bow) to the batteries (stern). Also, which battery should I connect the power to? (2 battery system) I don't have any access to the inside of the gunwales. I've seen this exact boat many times with a windlass installed so maybe someone on here has one or has some info on how to do it. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I know this may sound stupid but i am going to presume there is a anchor locker if it has a pulpit and roller. If so did you nose around in the locker and see if it's already wired for a windless. I would think with a pulpit it might be wired already. Do you have a windless switch on the console ?? If you have to run wire, just make sure you use big gauge. They draw a lot over that distance.

It does not have any existing wiring for a windlass. I even cross referenced the hull # with Pursuit and they confirmed that it does not. No switches or wiring at all.

You need to go from the switch at the helm to the battery. Usually there is a wire chase under the floor in the console for that. When going from the console to the windlass, use an electricians fishtape and drill a hole in the aft portion of the anchor locker and feed the tape back from the bow to the console (it'll be easier to get thru the chase. Tape your wires to the fish tape and pull it up to the bow. Secure the wires in the top of the anchor locker with wire loom and cable ties for a finished look.

It sucks, tho. I've done it. Takes forever, you're gonna be hot and sweaty, and itchy from having your arms down under the floor.

Don't you mean to switch to a circuit breaker then to power.

I'm not giving him the wiring diagram...just the idea how to get from point A to point B. He'll need power from a battery to the switch and then go from the switch to the windlass. Fuses and relay applied where necessary according to the instruction manual.

Fireman gave you a good method to try. In the event you can't get a fish tape (available at Home Depot around $15) through to the stern, here is another thought. If your boat has nav lights at the bow, you have a path from there. You could use these wires as pull strings. If you decide to try this, let us know first. We can give you more detailed instructions to make sure you don't lose your nav light wires somewhere in the middle of the boat.

Sea ya...
