I just purchased a Pro-Line 21 Sport Center Console with a hard T-Top. I want to put a flush mount GPS/Sonar unit on my dash but i was wondering if i could get away with buying a sounder with an internal antenna? Are the shoot thru hull transducers a lot better than the regular transom mount? I thought about going with the shoot thru until i read on the lowrance website that I might have to remove the top layer of fiberglass in order to make it work properly and that sounds like it will void my hull warranty. I think i would rather just have two screw hulls in my hull instead of that. Thanks for your help!

Shoot thru hull transducer will loose about 10 percent but you have no worries about a stick in the water hitting it and taking it out. Also usually fewer problems with air bubbles in the water. For solid fiberglass hull most work good deep in the hull near the engine area. If the boat has hand lay up fiberglass it still may work without cutting thru any of the hull. If they used enough resin to soak the matts and get all the air out. If hull has a foam core then transducer will not work unless you cut thru to the outlayer. Some fishing boats have a special place to mount your transducer inside the hull.

Flush mount GPS under a hard top with an internal antenna may not work very well. They do work good thru canvas tops and glass windows. Most likely you would at least not be able to pick up the weak WAAS bird.
