installing lower unit 1996 merc 150

i tried to install lower unit, thought everything was fine until i checked reverse. no movement in prop clockwise or counterclockwise. the manual says it should move 1/3 each way. in forward , the prop clockwise ratchets.can someone help me out please. thanks

It jumped gear as it was installed drop it down put everything in rev. gear and reinstall it.

i tried it in reverse. when i was done it wouldnt let me get out of reverse. am i not lining up the shift shaft properly. does the prop have to have play both ways in reverse? i thought this motor had ez shift.

I think your messing up on rotation of the unit, if it's a RH unit then in fwd. gear the prop will rachet clockwise and lock when turned counterclockwise it's a common mistake and if the unit and prop are LH of course everthing work backwords to that.

how do i shift the unit? the shift shaft does not move at all and the prop seems to be in nuetral; it moves freely both ways

The shaft should turn with a pair of pliers there is a slight detent but not much

Make sure and lube it before you put it back together.And test it also before to.

thanks for the help. i was able to move the shift shaft with pliers . i was unable to installl it in reverse. i tried it in neutral and in forward. i got the same result. forward and nuetral are good but reverse has no movement each way. tied and frustrated.

thanks for the help. i took it out on the water and everything was fine. it turns out that it was ok all along.
