I am replacing intake on vortec head 5.7engine. Has anyone used the Fel pro MS98000T gasket for this? Instead of the usual plastic carrier and thin sealing bead, it is a metal core with substantially more rubber sealing the ports. Looks like a lot better gasket, but I cant find if the carrier is aluminum, steel, stainless etc. The entire externally exposed part of the gasket is rubber coated, so I dont think there would be any corrosion concerns, but looking for other opinions.

Yep, used those gaskets MANY times to reseal 5.0/5.7L engines in trucks. Allot better design than the factory plastic gaskets that crumble, and start leaking coolant.

Don't know if the metal is standard steel, or stainless. Looks pretty well encapsulated around the cooling passages regardless.

yep pretty much every sealing edge is covered, including the edge exposed externally. The sealing 'bead' is several times wider than the typical plastic framed gasket as well.

I used a similar set on my 3800 V6, seem like a very well made gasket. Just didnt know if they would be 'marine' capable for some reason im not seeing.

FWIW, I believe Fel-Pro P/N 17303 is what they intended for Marine Vortec's

any idea what the difference is in a a marine intake gasket made of plastic, and normal automotive plastic gasket. Doesnt seem like it would need to be much different.

Probably nothing...
Seems that Fel-Pro made the metal backed gaskets to solve a known issue with the factory plastic gaskets in cars/trucks. With the marine ones, Fel-Pro may be sticking with a plastic design to avoid corrosion issues.

Yep,this is the only intake gasket I will use on a vortec, plastic sucks, I wouldnt worry about it being aluminum, if you think its an issue paint it after assembly.
