I think I know the answer, but I have to ask. I recently added a cold air intake to my truck for more power. Added about 10 horses and sounds great. This got me thinking. I have a spare crowl for my 150. If I cut three holes right in front of my three carbs, remove the carb covers and fashion some kind if filter holder to keep water and dirt out, it would give it a ram air type intake. An added benefit would be airflow around the block to help with cooling. I don't have a overheating issue, considering I'm sucking up 75?F river water and my block stays right under 100?F. I guess my question is would I gain anything, hunt anything, or just a waste if time?

Thanks,
Tom

Re: Intake

I believe it is a waste of time due to the following:
The difference in air temp with the cowl on and off is very little.
The ram jet effect is more theoretical than real due to the filter
You can't ran it without air filter due to water not to mention if it rains
Even with cold air I do not believe a two cycle engine will gain as much compare to a 4-cycle engine

If there's anything to gain from your proposal will be a louder and noisier engine. I think.

Re: Intake

Fuggedaboudit! I have run them both ways and believe me: There is no performance difference, only a lot more noise.

Now, if it were a Hemi and you had tuned length intakes----------
