Okay, im in the middle of a resto. Ive replaced the stringers, ribs, transom, and added knee braces. The glass work is almost finished and the deck needs to go in. Before i put the deck down, id like to cover the fiberglass with some sort of paint. Also, id like to continue that paint to the interior when the deck is in? Can anyone reccomend something that will be waterproof and will adhere well (dont really want to deal with big chunks coming off at the end of the season). The stuff under the boat wont be exposed to any sun or elements, but the deck will get wet from time to time and will have carpet over it?
Mind you, i will be applying by roller and brush and id like it to be somewhat economical. Its only an 18'boat btw.

Why would you want to paint under the deck?
If you are concerned about watertightness then I would coat it with gelcoat but even then I think its overkill. Just paint the deck and hull sides once the deck is done.

I agree with Drewpster..

If everything is glass and resin there is no need for another coat of anything if your going to carpet. Gel or any other coating for that matter would only create another "fail" coat.

Deck it prep it then carpet ( as long as im reading you right about the deck being glassed ).

Painted bilges are easier to clean....if you have access to it after placing the cap back on. We have used gel-coat most of the time. Awl Grip on others. One builder used Easy Epoxy which came out nice, is fairly inexpensive, but I don't know how she held up over time. Good luck.

From what I understand of what he said, I agree with drewp and YD. This sounds like areas not accessible after the deck is installed and will never be seen again or cleaned, so nothing needs to be done in these on these surfaces. I'd skip the carpet and go with a non skid finish, but that's just for how I use a boat.

Yes the deck will be finished and glassed in....
Here~I found this

So i went deeper and found this
th_October2010weddingandboat084.jpg

So i removed all of that replaced it with new and now im about ready to cover it iwht new wood... I also replaced the transom while i was in there and added knee braces...
I have to get some new pictures as my camera has been acting up.
But the area im speaking of at this moment is where the stringer and ribs are...
I left weep passages all the way through incase water ever does get in there it can travel all the way back to the bilge....

If she were mine...I agree. No need for paint then, and I like non skid too.
